Replacing your outdated kitchen cabinets gets expensive rather quickly. Many people want an upgrade without spending a small fortune on new cabinets, installation, tools, and more. Luckily, Benchmark Home Improvements can help you install quality cabinet refacing veneers that will give you a premium kitchen without demanding premium prices.

Cabinet veneers are an affordable alternative to kitchen remodeling. They are thin pieces of high-quality wood that stick to a cabinet’s face. Veneers allow you to enhance your kitchen’s visual appeal at a fraction of the cost of a complete remodel.

Some remodeling companies in the Portsmouth area even offer peel-and-stick veneers that make the refacing process easier than ever. Continue reading to find out more about cabinet refacing veneers and how they can improve your kitchen.

Is Veneer Good for Kitchen Cabinets?

Enhancing your kitchen with veneer is a safe and secure way to improve your cabinets while budgeting your finances. They don’t damage your cabinets, and the entire process only takes a few hours to complete.

Self-stick veneers have a strong adhesive that firmly attaches to your cabinet’s frame and doors, giving them a new and improved style. However, it’s vital to have the correct measurements since the adhesive makes it nearly impossible to adjust once it takes hold.

It is important to note though, if your cabinets have structural damage, or the hardware needs repair, refacing with veneer is not going to fix or even prolong the life of the cabinets.  In that situation, it may be better to replace with new custom or even stock cabinets.

How Do You Replace Veneer on Kitchen Cabinets?

Enhancing your kitchen cabinets with veneer is easier than you might think. All you need to do is follow the simple steps below.

Step One: Remove and Clean the Cabinets

Start by removing the cabinets and cleaning their sides and faces. Once they’re clean, sand them using 150-grit sandpaper.

Step 2: Apply Glue

Once you sand everything, apply carpenter’s glue on the panel and exposed side of the cabinet bank to secure the panel in place.

Step 3: Secure the Panel

After that, attach the panel using 2d finish nails. Also, use a nailset to sink the nail heads and fill any holes with a filler.

Step 4: Measure and Cover the Stiles

Next, measure the rails and stiles. Once you have the exact dimensions, cut the veneer a half-inch wider and two inches longer than your measurements and apply it.

Step 5: Secure the Veneer

After applying the veneer, use a wood block to secure it. Push on the veneer and glide the block down to work out any air bubbles while ensuring it’s firmly in place.

Step 6: Apply the Veneer on the Reverse Stile and Cover the Rails

Next, apply the veneer on the other stile and trim accordingly. After that, cover the rails as well.

Step 7: Hang Doors and Attach Knobs

Finally, screw the doors and knobs back into place to complete the cabinet refacing veneer process.
